Material Background:

Dry mixed Recyclables are recovered from domestic co-mingled kerbside collections and taken to site. This location has a separate MRF and PRF which generates good quality clean material.

Initially, the PP and PS which is part of the DMR at this stage enters the MRF where glass, metals, and other contamination are removed.

From here it moves to the PRF for single-stream separation.

·       The plastics from the MRF go into a QC cabin to remove any oversized material that may damage the PRF

·       The plastics then go into a trommel to remove any fines and shake/loose material to help with the processing.

·       An air knife then removes any remaining non-plastic material e.g. paper or film. These materials are recovered and put back through the MRF

·       Next, the first NIR positively targets non-plastics. The non-plastics go over the top and plastics fall onto a separate conveyor and carry on their journey

·       The plastics then pass an overband separator magnet to remove ferrous material

·       They then move onto an eddy current to remove non-ferrous material

·       The second NIR positively targets ALL PET

·       The third NIR positively targets CLEAR PET which falls into its own bunker

·       Remaining PET Jazz falls into a separate bunker

·       A fourth NIR positively targets ALL HDPE

·       The fifth NIR positively targets all HDPE Natural which falls into its own bunker

·       Remaining HDPE Jazz falls into its own bunker

·       The sixth NIR positively targets PP and PS which falls into a combined bunker

·       Finally, a seventh NIR positively targets any remaining material for any residual PET and HDPE where it is directed back through the third and fifth NIR for colour separation.

·       Any remaining material is captured and returned to the MRF for further processing

·       As you can see from the images this material has a lot of natural in it and would benefit from further separation.

Baling

1.     Once material bunkers are full they go for baling

2.     All bales are dressed, and any visible contamination is removed. These checked bales are provided with a green QC-controlled sticker providing the date and shift details for future reference. Any that fail are broken down and out back through the MRF and PRF.
